Three of Spain’s northernmost regions
- Euskadi, Cantabria and Asturias - are waiting
to surprise you with Spain’s green side:
they have various stunning Natural Reserves
as well as numerous other protected areas. Along
the north coast of Spain there are more than
100 different beaches. You could visit a different
one each day for two months without repeating:
large, small, urban, rural, enclosed or open
to the Cantabrian Sea: all of them have fine
white sand, crystal clear water and that certain
touch of magic!
If there is one thing that defines the geography
and appearance of the north of Spain it is the
dramatic contrast in landscapes. These extremes
are due to the concentration of high mountains,
deep valleys and a sheer coastline in an area
of little more than 5,000 square kilometers.
Beside its stunning nature, another reason
to visit this area is its cuisine, known throughout
Spain for its culinary masterpieces. A true
food-lover has to have visited the tapas bars
in San Sebastian famous for its pintxos - which
consist of small slices of bread upon which
an ingredient or mixture of ingredients is placed
and fastened with a toothpick, which gives the
food its name "pincho", meaning "spike"
– or the fantastic sea food restaurants
you can find all over the coast. Looking for
the best option nearby? Ask a local where they
have lunch on Sunday afternoon!
